Picture the picture perfect farm family and you’ve got a little sneak peak of how I grew up. My dad has farmed full time my entire life & my mom has worked at the bank, finished her degree, and eventually landed in a school with a passion for teaching. I grew up the youngest with an older brother & sister. Growing up you could say I was the tom boy of the family. I bottle fed my calves barefoot in my dad’s oversized shirts I used to sleep in.
I was the girl running out the door to catch the bus with a piece of toast in my mouth because I spent too much time playing with the animals instead of getting ready.
My summers were spent walking cattle, riding my horse, going to horse shows, volleyball camp, and getting ready for our county 4-H fair. I never imagined some people actually got bored during summer. If I got ‘bored’ I’d grab our chocolate lab & trek the short distance thru the field to my grandma’s house. That old farmhouse holds more of my childhood memories than I can count. We’d spend countless hours picking weeds in the garden or swinging as high as we could on the swing set. Eating sour grapes off the grape vine & finding kittens up in the hay mow. On the hot days we’d talk grandma into letting us eat an ice cream cone (or two). We’d shuck corn & feed the husks to the cattle and spend the rest of the day cutting off the corn on the cob to freeze. These were the best days. The days where the work was just as fun as the play.
When I was a kid my favorite things were always spending time with friends and my animals as well as playing sports. My freshman year of high school I started dating my now husband, Parker. Our time spent together involved many of my favorite things, farming and animals!
